Still Here

Last post: August 8th.

Yep, that sounds about right. Life got extremely busy around that time (working more than full-time hours at my day job building a new website), planning a class reunion, kids, house, dog, husband, and no running.

It was all I could do to make it to the holidays in one piece, which I did. And now life has slowed down (slightly) but I am UNFORTUNATELY still in a lot of back pain and now sleeping (again) in my reclining chair. Lovely!

I had a third MRI last week and am patiently waiting to meet up with my new doctor to go over the results. Basically, he and I are both expecting as follows: further disc degeneration, additional steroid injections, and end that with a fusion of my L5/S1. Two years of this misery (has it really been that long) has finally come to this.

In the meantime I have been walking regularly, daily doses of yoga, and I am strongly considering acupuncture. If I can keep the pain at bay I will do that for a while, but I really, really, really miss my running. All I want is to get out on the trails again. I don’t care if I never enter another race. I don’t care if I can’t be out there for hours at a time anymore. But an hour would be nice. Damn nice.

Will report back with the results from the doctor next week.

  1. Good luck with the doctor Jill! I ended up having to have a 2 level ACDF in December due to major cord compression. Hopefully you will find away to to make the pain go away without having to go the surgery route!

  2. I hope you find some relief soon. My husband has been struggling with back pain for more than a year now (disc issues). I know how frustrating it is. Good luck at the doctor’s office next week!
