2010 LVRR Summer Series 5k #4
The third race in this series was canceled due to excessive heat. Last night’s race probably should have been canceled, too.
Heat index temperatures were 94° last evening. Ridiculous! So, that’s my excuse for my failure. It was aweful out there. My first mile was a 7:42 pace according to the guy who crossed the one mile mark alongside me. I did not wear a watch. Running by feel made the most sense. Besides, with this heat? Who cares about the race! It’s all about getting together and hanging with my running peeps more than anything else.
I crossed the second mile in 15:43 or something like that.
I crossed the finish line in 24:44. 7:58 pace. That, my friends, was about all I could muster at 6:30 pm on a Wednesday night. In the heat. And humidity.
And that earned me 2nd place in my age group.
Afterwards, I had a beer. And then another.
Mmmmm …

That’s all?? Did you say “that’s all”??? That is amazing!! You are a fast little sneaker sister!!!
I hate evening races and I live in Central FL and at 7:50AM this morning it registered 90 degrees in my car….I’m feelin your pain with the heat girl!!
Brutal time (and temp!) for a 5K. Way to put in a solid effort!
Racing in heat like that DESERVES a beer…and another!
LOL Colin. Truly! Which is why I brought a case to the clubhouse. So that I could share them with my friends.
Marlene, how the heck do you do all of these back to back races??? Ugh! All I can say is I hope your weather is better than here.
Tobi, 2 minutes off my PR, in a bad way. Major kudos to you for running in the FL heat. I know how tough that is.
You started running competitively around the same time as I did.
I find it much harder to get a lot better after you’ve been running hard for a few years. The PR’S, and fast times are harder to achieve, heat and everything else aside.
It’s all an uphill battle from here.
Heat sucks a lot out of me too. I have a 5K tomorrow and my goal is run the 3rd mile hard, regardless of what the pace actually is. I’m looking forward to cooler weather.
